So who am I? Well, that's a good question and I'm still working on the answer but in the meantime I'll let you in on a few things I've figured out so far. I've had more jobs than most and have found my calling both as an engineer/professor AND a photographer. Having lived on three continents, I love to be around people that are still willing to question and live life. Although I've had plenty of formal training, I have only just begun my education.

I think a big part of what makes me a good photographer is that I pay attention; I like to know and anticipate what is going on around me. As a student I used to hang out in the busiest place on campus to do my homework just to watch the people. (disclaimer: this is not the secret to getting good grades.) Nowadays, you can often find me around town in cafe's with my laptop or pretending to read. Plus for me, mediocrity is not ok and my work is personal. I know that goes against the grain of good advice about separating our private and professional lives but I would venture to say that there is plenty of personal in the work of the world's most successful people. And in my personal style, photography is not just about taking pictures rather capturing an essence or emotion and telling stories. In order to do this I essentially become a "voyeur" into people's lives during some very intimate and life changing moments and if that is not personal I don't know what is! I take plenty of artistic license in the work that I do and like it that way.

Currently, my most important goal is to raise happy, well adjusted people. For me that means combining work that inspires me (so I am more pleasant to be around) with a home-life that often resembles a circus attraction. And here's the big part: do everything while maintaining sanity! I struggle to achieve a good balance between work and home-life and try to take everyday as it comes.

Stay tuned for the next chapters, I've only just begun...

Under construction!
